Okocat Litter Review: How I Tested This Product.

I have not been given free Okocat litter in exchange for a positive review. I am an everyday cat owner who’s on the search for a good product for my cat that makes my cat’s life better and my life easier.

I have simply gone to the pet store and purchased Okocat litter products with my own money. I have used this product for about 3 – 4 months with 1 large cat.

I started with the Okocat original formula and ended up switching to the pellet form. The pellets track much less and my cat was a-okay with them.

 Overall Verdict On Okocat Litter

After about 10 years of experience in buying cat litter for my cat, I will be using this cat litter until I find a better one. And I don’t think I will find a better one anytime soon. Therefore, I really do believe that this is a good product, and I will be personally using it for some time.

Is Okocat Litter Safe And Friendly To The Environment?

Yes.

Harmful clay and chemicals really are not included in this product.

As the Okocat website states, their product is made from entirely “sustainably sourced, responsibly rescued natural wood fiber.”

No strip mining is involved.

There is no calcium or sodium bentonite, chemical additives, or fragrance is in the product.

This product is also biodegradable, in contrast to clay clumping litter which just crowds up landfills. This product will safely biodegrade back into the earth.

In terms of the environment, there’s no guilt involved when buying this product. In fact, by buying this product, you’ll be doing your part in supporting a company that is genuinely trying to make a cat litter that takes care of the earth.

The fact that no sodium bentonite and no clay is involved at all in the making of this product is the key to its safety for your cat. For more on this topic, see our article on the dangers of clumping cat litter.

Rest assured, your cat is safe with this product as well as the earth.

For a list of the different types of safe and environmentally friendly cat litters available today, see this article for further details. Okocat litter fits nicely into our safe and environmentally-friendly cat litter category.

Okocat Litter: Original Formula

Many companies are trying to make new cat litter that is safe for cats and good for the environment. Often, in so doing, they create a product that doesn’t perform very well or is very expensive.

I found that the Okocat Original Formula performed well. In terms of price, Okocat is much more expensive than your ordinary cat litter. However, it is not outrageously priced. It is affordable for the average person.

In terms of safe and environmentally-friendly cat litter, it is not overpriced at all.

If you are going to buy a litter that is safe for everyone and good for the earth, you can expect to pay what you will pay for Okocat products.

And, it is well worth the extra money. It is much less dusty than clay litter, tracks significantly less, is healthier for your cat, and will not sit in a landfill forever. You can easily flush the waste down the toilet without clogging up your pipes.

Very well worth the extra money.

This formula also clumps well without using harmful sodium bentonite as a clumping agent (which is not a safe ingredient for your cat).

Odor control is great, if you are scooping your litter box on a regular basis, of course. You can leave the box for a couple of days to a week without scooping, and it won’t smell, which is a plus. It’s nice to know that you don’t have to be perfect with your litter scooping routine for the box to smell fine.

I did not notice any problems with absorption, even though this is a wood formula. I was a little skeptical that wood-based litter would work- but it performed very well.

I don’t find this product overly dusty. It does track some, but much less than any other litter I have tried (and I have tried many). I sweep less with this product. Additionally, I don’t think it is possible to find a litter that doesn’t track at all. If you have found that secret Holy Grail,  please do let me know!

I know this doesn’t matter in terms of performance, but the Okocat website is lovely and easy to use. Their packaging is very cute and I like the simple box format with a handle.

Okocat Litter: Pellet, Low-dust Formula

The Pellet Formula works in much the same way as the original formula, with all the points that I have listed above.

The main difference is that the pellets are not as dusty and do not track as much. (Which is great, because tracking and dust were minimal with the first formula already.)

My only word of caution is that your cat may not take to the larger pellets. So far mine has, but he is easy-going when it comes to the litter box.  Some cats will be pickier. They may not like the larger chunks between their paws.

You can sometimes avoid this by slowly introducing your cat to the pellets. Start by adding a bit to the old formula and work your way up to a full box.

As well- I have not personally used the Pellet formula as long as the original formula! So far I have had good results, but it hasn’t been months yet. Additionally, I haven’t fully tested out the odor aspect, as my cat is on a mixed box with the original formula and the pellet formula.

Conclusion

Do I like this product? Yes! I actually do, and so does my cat!

I’m glad that I found this sweet gem in the cat litter aisle.

I would rank this as my all-time favourite cat litter. If you have read my article on Pretty Litter, it is true that I love that litter. However, Okocat takes the cake because it lasts longer, is less expensive, and is biodegradable.

This is a solid product and you are very likely to be happy with your purchase!

Beth, good afternoon. I think I must agree with you that cats choose their owners.   I admire cats since they are intelligent and self-sufficient animals.  In my opinion, your comprehensive guide on cat breeds is both informative and well-presented.

My mum currently owns a Bengal cat that is seven years old. She’s calmer and more domesticated now than she was a few years back. Thank you for your great advice!

Hi, I really appreciate this post as I Absolutely LOVE Cats, our cat Maj is an outdoor cat, she comes and goes as she pleases but there are times when she must stay indoors so out comes her litter box. Litter types are so important as you point out, the safety for our furry friends and us too, absorbancy and how well it holds the smell is really important, easy separation of the removal of waste is important too so the litter lasts longer.

Great post very informative I learnt a lot and I have to also agree sometimes paying that little extra really does pay off. Thanks for sharing 😉
